Meet The Designer
EMILY ROUTLEY

What is your background?

When leaving school, I wanted to study interior design but it wasn’t easily accessible, so I went with my back up option of Travel, I first studied a Diploma of Tourism & Management before working in the industry for 6yrs with Scenic Tours. I studied my Diploma of Interior Design while working full-time in Travel. I then had 12 months maternity leave and began working in the Lighting Industry at Beacon Lighting where I stayed for 4yrs before wanting to grow my skills and moving onto Thynk Group.

What made you want to get into interior design?

It was something I was always interested in and had enjoyed watching all the design shows since I was a little girl. Starting in the lighting industry made my passions grow even further and made me want to be a larger part of a client’s home design.

What do you love about your job?

I enjoy being creative, building a relationship with our clients and helping them to achieve their dream home. I love watching clients become comfortable and confident in their decisions.

What tile designs really get your heart racing?

I love mosaics and the endless possible design options. A simple herringbone for something elegant and timeless or a handmade tile to add variation and texture.

What product trends are you seeing when it comes to tile and flooring?

Raw, Earthy, Coastal. Timber flooring to bring warmth, chunky knit carpet for texture and light tiles to brighten a space.

If you could makeover your own kitchen, what would it look like?

Two tone – White shaker cabinets, a soft sage feature to the island, a beautiful white stone benchtop, brass or aged nickel fixtures, some open timber shelving to display unique pieces, a Spanish hand-made tiled splashback and feature pendants.
