Meet The Designer
Lyndal Quinn

What is your background?

I spent 20 years in the makeup industry traveling the world then moved onto fabrics and homewares.

I started with Thynk Sydney in February 2019 as a receptionist, doing showroom tours and walk in cash sales, and moved my way up to a colour consultant then moved to Orange January 2020.

How do you tackle the design process?

I like to make the client feel at ease, it is usually their last appointment in their building journey, so I like to make their last one easy and stress free. I get to know them a bit first to understand what style of home they are looking for and the sorts of colours they like.

What do you love about your job?

I love helping the clients! Seeing them happy with their choices and my guidance makes my job not feel like work!

What tile designs really get your heart racing?

I love a crisp, matt, white-grey tile; something with a little bit of vein to give it some character!

Tell us about your favourite selection?

My favourite selection would have to be a recent one when we recreated a display home but with different colours within the builders’ range with only a few upgrades. It was a light, Hamptons-style colouring throughout the whole house with little added features to give it their own personal touch

What’s the most common question you get asked during a selection?

“What would you choose?” I am happy to tell them what I would choose but my taste is not always their taste! I then ask them what they would like, and we go from there.

What product trends are you seeing when it comes to tile and flooring?

Herringbone floors, herringbone splashbacks with handmade tiles and lots of feature walls in bathrooms.

What colour trends are you seeing when it comes to tile and flooring?

Being out in the Central West most people go for the spotted oaks on the floors which I absolutely love, textured carpets are becoming popular in the bedrooms and bathrooms are being kept simple and crisp with whites and greys.

If you could makeover your own kitchen, what would it look like?

All white! It would have soft white benchtop and lots of light! I’d hang beautiful, pendant lights over the island bench and have brushed brass tap wear and handles. My splashback would be a simple white herringbone handmade subway tile with a lovely light grey grout.
